RAFAEL NADAL PRAISES COACH CARLOS MOYA

World No. 1 Rafael Nadal has praised the impact of Coach Carlos Moya since joining his team.


The top player surged to the top spot in the ATP rankings while adding a string of victories and titles to his full cabinet.

The Spaniard confessed that adding Moya to his coaching team brought freshness and energy to his training routine. Moya joined last December to work with the player’s uncle Toni Nadal. The pair has worked to help Nadal revitalise his career.

Moya, a former World No. 1, reportedly played a crucial role in helping the 31-year old overcome his spate of injuries, poor form and off the court issues. The player won a record 10th French Open title and his third US Open title this term. He was very close as he lost the Australian Open final to his long-time rival Roger Federer. Read more »

DIMITROV AND KYRGIOUS BATTLE FOR FIRST MASTERS TITLE

GrigorDimitrov and Nick Kyrgiosare set to battle for their first Masters 1000 title when they clash at the final of the Western & Southern Open.


Both first time finalist at the Masters 1000 event are the first players since Toronto 2002 when Andy Roddick and Guillermo Canas clashed.

The seventh seed Dimitrov has reached and lost at three Masters 1000 last four before seeing off John Isner 7-6(4), 7-6(10) to book a place in Saturday’s final. He has won ATP World Tour 500 aside lifting five ATP World Tour 250 titles. He has an impressive hard court result this season but his opponent has also posted good returns on the same surface.

Kyrgios has won one ATP World Tour 500 and two ATP World Tour 250 titles. He won his semi-final game in two tie breaks to become the youngest Cincinnati finalist since Novak Djokovic back in 2009. Read more »

MASTERS 1000: FEDERER CLAIMS NEW AGE RECORD

Following an impressive run during the Indian Wells and Miami Open, Rogers Federer has gone on to claim the opening two Masters 1000 titles. This would make it the first time since 2006 he achieved this feat.


In lieu of this, the Swiss tennis star has busted through some serious records, and has now become the oldest player to win this series at the age of 35 years and 7 months.

Before this, Andre Agassi held the record as the oldest winner of the Masters 1000 title when in 2004 in Cincinnati, he lifted the trophy at the age of 34 years and 3 months.

It took another 11 years for anyone to get close to the feat posted by Agassi. It was achieved by Federer who went on just after his 34th birthday to conquer Cincinnati.

This season has seen Federer raise the bar quite higher and it could take more than a decade for anyone to surpass or even match this feat. Read more »

STAN WAWRINKA TO PARTICIPATE IN AEGON CHANPIONSHIP

Stan Wawrinka, a three time Grand Slam Championship title holder, has been announced as going to participate in Queens during this year’s Aegon Championship.


So far in his career, the tennis player has featured four times in his career, with his best result at the Queens Club coming in 2014 where he got to the semi-finals of the event.

On one occasion, he got to the last-16 stage of the event and on two other occasions, he lost out at the round of 32 of the event.

Or the Swiss, it is undoubtedly important that he leaves his mark this year on the grass. So far throughout his career, he has won three major championships; the Australian Open, US Open and Roland Garros. If he pushes on to come off victorious in the Wimbledon this year, he would have completed a Career Grand Slam.

NALBANDIAN NARROWLY ESCAPES DEATH IN ARGENTINA

In a recent occurrence, 34-year old tennis superstar David Nalbandian, who is an ex-Wimbledon finalist and also widely known as the world number three tennis player at the peak of his career, narrowly escaped death in the fatal car crash of his vehicle.


He lost control of his car during a national competition as it rolled twice during the event held in Argentina. Video footage captured by spectators shows the star’s Chevrolet spinning before ending up on its side.

Fortunately, both Nalbandian and his co driver were helped out the ruined car by surrounding fans and spectators who were on scene, both occupants were unhurt. Thankful to be alive, David Nalbandian popularly remembered as the runner-up at the Wimbledon final in 2002 to lleyton Hewitt was quickly reunited with his family and was reported to be relaxing in a swimming pool alongside his daughter much later in the day.

One would recall that the player retired from professional tennis back in 2003. After deserting the court, the former star decided to try his hand at rally car driving. David Nalbandian comments on Players Rankings

According to David Nalbandian, a player who is strong only on one kind of court and not on all courts, he can’t rank at the top in modern Tennis.

Yes, twenty years back, if someone was specialized for maybe clay or grass, he could rise to the top, but, in today’s game, such players would remain far, far behind.

Nalbandian cited the example of Sampras to explain his point. The American was not so good playing on courts where the ball reached to the players with lesser speed and so, was never a big threat on clay. He never looked like winning French Open in spite of participating in that competition for so many times. Just once he could qualify for the Round of 4. But, irrespective of his weakness on clay, he owned the top spot for more than 5 years.
